Building a Strong Foundation in Mediumship
Ask most mediums, and they will tell you that there’s a big difference between knowing you have abilities and understanding what to do with them. Whether you’ve been communicating with the Spirit World since childhood or are (re)discovering your gifts later in life, building a strong foundation is key to serving communicators and sitters. This is why having the right teacher is so crucial.
As with any discipline, an excellent mediumship teacher not only has the technical skills, but also integrity and the desire to serve something greater than themselves. They won’t teach you how to “become” a medium; they give you a framework for making sense of your experiences, developing consistency in your practice, and understanding the responsibility that comes with this gift.
The right teacher will also meet you where you are. If you've been practicing since childhood, they'll help you add structure without crushing your natural flow. If you're brand new, they'll guide you without overwhelming you. They will also be honest: mediumship development takes time and a passion for life-long learning and expansion.
This leads me to the most important aspect of all, which I learned from my teacher, Andy Byng: a significant part of mediumship training is actually about working on yourself.
As Andy explains:
Mediumship is a little like an iceberg. At any given time, what we’re seeing in our mediumistic expression is the tip of the iceberg. Practical exercises polish, shape, and mold the tip of the iceberg, but underneath that is a huge mass that’s invisible to the naked eye. Personal development is bringing more of that untapped potential to the surface. The magic key is a dynamic approach, combining robust technical and practical exercises that continually shape the tip of the iceberg, with the personal development that actually lifts the iceberg out of the water.
We all have unhealed trauma, unexamined fears, and residue from our experiences it’s part of being human, and it muddies the lens through which we see the world. As mediums, it can also muddy the communication from the Spirit World. The more we work to heal these aspects of ourselves, the more inner clarity we have, the clearer the messages we receive will be.
There is no shortage of ways we can do this, from sitting in the Power and other forms of meditation to EMDR and energy healing. Also important is honestly examining why you're doing this work. Yes, you honestly want to serve spirit and help people, but are you also needing validation of your own worth? If the answer is yes, more self-examination is needed, not just to be a “better” medium, but a more joyful, confident one.
Whether you’re a seasoned medium or just beginning your path, formal training will help you dive deeper, not only into communicating with the Spirit World, but with yourself.

Inspired Writing by JoAnne McKeag

Resilience reveals itself when the reality of humanity jolts us. It is an evolving state of processing and accepting what has shaken us to our core. Accepting our challenging experiences and emotions strengthens us. This strength provides us with greater stamina, perseverance, and confidence. This is a place of recognizing that we have felt a less desirable emotion, such as fear, grief, or betrayal, and bravely moved beyond it. This is a feat worth celebrating!
Branching out into undiscovered territory has a cumulative effect. The more often we do it, the more we trust ourselves. Following our soul's calling can sometimes create discomfort and challenges. Developing resiliency equips us to feel discomfort appropriately and meet challenges confidently. Confidence and trust in ourselves and our support system in Spirit prepare us for the next zinger of the reality of humanity.
JoAnne McKeag is an evidential medium and psychic. JoAnne provides both private sittings and group demonstrations of mediumship online using Zoom.
JoAnne has always had an understanding and trust that our souls live on eternally beyond the physical body. During her career as a teacher and administrator, there was a constant calling to further explore mediumship and psychic work. It was upon the passing of her mother that JoAnne met with a medium and knew without a doubt that her mother was not only present but also communicating through the medium! This sparked an undeniable urge to read, research, and study mediumship voraciously for several years under the mentorship of some of the best mediums this world has seen.

Transcendent Publishing The Writing Nook Shanda Trofe

After more than a decade of running Facebook groups for writers and authors, I finally decided to close them. As much as I’ve loved connecting with so many amazing writers over the years, the truth is, the social media landscape has changed. Between endless notifications, cluttered newsfeeds, constant negativity, and distractions, it’s no longer the uplifting connected space it once was. I found myself craving something quieter—a space that feels intentional, not noisy. A space where writers can come together, where creativity and connection are the true focus.

We are so excited to announce the launch of The Writing Nook, a cozy, virtual community designed exclusively for writers and authors who crave genuine connection, accountability, and inspiration without the chaos of social media—created by book coach and founder of Transcendent Publishing, Shanda Trofe.
Whether you’re just beginning your writing journey or preparing to publish your next book, this welcoming community is here to help you stay consistent, inspired, and connected to your purpose.
Inside The Writing Nook, you’ll find everything you need to stay motivated and make real progress on your writing goals—all in one peaceful online space.
Join a nurturing writing community designed to help you stay inspired, accountable, and connected.
The Writing Nook is a cozy, distraction-free corner of the internet created by book coach, Shanda Trofe, just for writers who crave support and a sense of community. Inside, you’ll find weekly write-ins via Zoom, monthly writing workshops, an ever-growing replay library, and a warm circle of writers who understand the ups and downs of the creative process. It’s a safe space to show up as you are, make progress on your projects, and be reminded that your words matter.
As an added bonus, in January, members will receive access to Shanda's Jumpstart Your Book 5-Day Challenge, a guided experience to help you gain clarity, outline your book, and write a strong opening chapter. If you’ve been feeling the nudge to finally start (or restart) your book, The Writing Nook is here to support you every step of the way. www.skool.com/thewritingnook

For nearly 25 years, Sunny has guided people through deep personal transformation – helping them heal, develop their intuition, and step into their purpose. But as her mission grew, she knew this work was meant to be bigger than just her. The School of Light was born from that knowing – a space where transformation isn’t just taught, it’s lived, shared, and expanded together. There are a variety of spiritual, intuitive, and personal development classes.
Julie Sullivan, Development Groups and the Spiritual Journey Book Club
Julie believes mediums need a safe space to develop, where they can find support, encouragement, freedom to express without judgment, and a sense of community. This led her to establish and facilitate several groups to develop psychic and mediumship skills. In 2022, Julie established the Spiritual Journey Book Club, with several spiritually based authors joining to lead discussions of their books. In addition, she created a Facebook Messenger group chat called “What’s Going On?!?” where members can share relevant events in the mediumistic community, personal updates, or helpful information.
The Spiritual Path Church, New Castle, PA.
The Spiritual Path Church is hosting a book club (via Zoom) on the last Tuesday of every month at 7 pm. All are welcome. If you would like additional information, please contact Reverend Karen Heasley at SpiritualPath1@yahoo.com.
